Centres of excellence

Leuka funds world-class research by top scientists and doctors at institutions of the highest quality. We collaborate with specialist haematology centres nationally and globally and aim to promote the implementation of specialist care for blood cancer patients so that new therapies can be delivered as quickly, and safely as possible.

Specialists in leukaemia – the “IMPACT Project”

In 2016 we will begin implementing an exciting new UK platform for stem cell transplantation trials – this will be centred within the Cancer Research UK CTC at the University of Birmingham with up to 10 participating centres from around the country. This project is a partnership with several other leading organisations.

You can learn more about the IMPACT trials network in this short video.

Dr. Charles Crawley, President of the British Society for Bone Marrow Transplantation, recently released the following statement:

“I am very pleased to let you know that the new BMT clinical trials network is going ahead and is set for a launch shortly. It is being supported by Anthony Nolan, Leuka, NHS BT and NIHR. This is very exciting project and I think may be transformational in our ability to deliver prospective studies. The new name for the trials network is IMPACT.

This is an enormous achievement and we are very grateful to all those involved especially Anthony Nolan, Leuka and NHS BT who have provided the funding to turn this idea into a reality.”

Leuka’s latest progress builds on our achievements since 2002 when we funded the building of a specialist haematology unit in West London. The Catherine Lewis Centre was a flagship for the NHS that led the way in revolutionising care for leukaemia and related disorders. Today, similar centres of excellence exist around the UK.
